Sewing Classes for Adults

Join our adult sewing classes in a relaxed space in Hove, run by Sarah, a warm and friendly expert teacher who will guide you during your sewing lesson. 

 

Sew Retro has a huge range of original vintage and contemporary patterns to inspire you. You are welcome to bring your own project, be it fashion or interiors, and everything in-between. You can make anything you like! 

 

Don't worry what level of skill and ability you have, simply scroll down and choose from a class designed for absolute beginners or one to develop your existing skills. If you are unsure which class will suit you best, contact us and we can advise you.

Classes Schedule

[ Tuesday ]  10 am – 12.30 pm    |    19.00 pm - 21.30 pm  |  

Wednesday  19.00 pm - 21.30 pm

Cancellations must be confirmed a minimum of 24 hrs in advance or a fee will be charged.

Beginner Sewing Classes

If you have never used a sewing machine before and would like to learn how it works - this is the class for you! You'll practice threading the sewing machine, winding and inserting the bobbin, stitching in straight lines, and keeping to the seam allowance.

 

You will continue on to learn to basic sewing skills, which include;

 

* How to pin a pattern onto fabric and how to cut it out 

* Start to understand the markings on commercial patterns

* How to finish and start seams, sew curves, corners, pivoting 

* Inserting zips or elastic and making buttonholes

Sew Retro classes give you the confidence to work on lots of different projects and use a variety of fabrics, adapting and altering patterns. We have a huge choice of beginners sewing projects, from clothes to cushions, or bring your own ideas. No prior sewing experience is necessary. You'll pick up some insider tricks we have learnt over the years.

 

All the equipment, Singer sewing machines and Jamone over lockers are provided.

More Experienced Sewers

Sew Retro’s advanced classes will guide you through new techniques to unlock your potential.

 

Progress on to more complicated dressmaking patterns or home interior projects with support from our expert tutor Sarah. Quilting, machine embroidery and appliqué, can be taken to the next level.

Perhaps you have an idea or an image of what you want and just need a helping hand to turn it into reality? Step out in style in a lined coat or unique dress of your own creation. You can email your project ideas prior to classes to discuss fabrics and techniques.

Planning a wedding? It is possible to fulfil your dreams by creating your own wedding or bridesmaids dresses. You can help a friend or family member make their day extra special by creating the perfectly fitting dress of their dreams.

Create beautiful pieces for your home and make your own Roman blinds, curtains and soft furnishings. Choose from the huge range of patterns, both modern and vintage at Sew Retro.
